eh. this took far too long.
partly because I didn't save it, and lost half of it.....twice...
I sort of like the shading...but the face pretty much kills the whole thing.

It looks better with the knife clean :)
I like the colouring, it's very good. And his grin makes me chuckle, in a dark and mischievous way =D

Hair's well done. Burning and dodging?

Think the cheek bone on the left side, his right, aught be moved closer to the other... I think. and you need to add more depth to the socket, as it goes much deeper, but make sure to have the ridge of the eyebrow. May think of highlighting the edges of the teeth (especially the canines), whichever direction you know the light to be coming from and perhaps adding slight shading on the opposite side, though to keep the simplicity don't add black lines or anything.

And perhaps taking some saturation out of the shoes would work well with the rest of the colors, which aren't so full.

But it's a strong base. I especially like the shading on his wrist, as it implies that sharpness of that bone.

Vast coloring improvements, how long is too long?

wow. that was a good comment :D thank you very much.
no, I used smudging and blurring for the hair, which are the only effects I do use, for the most part...

yes...his face is...troublesome. his mouth is too wide, it was in the sketch....so if I move the cheekbones in it'll look bad in proportionto the mouth. I really wasn't sure what to do about the eye x_x so thanks for the suggestions. oh wow. I completely missed shading the teeth x_x

too long would be a week...about..if you don't count the days when I didn't work on it.
:iconakvarium:
hehe, thanks.
I sort of like the knife clean too...
hehe, his grin tends to have that effect.

Well, the image does seem stylized and he's kind of crazy, so the mouth could be kept abnormally large as long as you leave the muscle at the corners of the mouth, you should be fine, as that would suggest that the smile is protruding from the rest of the face.

You should try the dodge and burn tools, they work well for subtle changes in value and a show of depth and dimension.

It goes so much faster if you do it more. Get to know where the tools are, where best to use them and how to get what you want with them, and you'll fly through them with practice - especially if it's a daily thing. And spacing work out can be a good thing. You don't want to get burnt out on it. Breaks are good.

You're welcome, and if you don't feel like doing it on this one, just try some of it out on your next projects. I know how it can be to be "done" with something. Keep it up.

yes, I'm planning on experimenting with the tools some more...I went back and fixed the teeth already, but I'm leaving the eye off until tommorow, because it seems like it will take a good chunk of time. its mainly the lineart that took me so long, I just got a laptop, and my new mouse is proving to be harder to use than the touchpad for lineart, but I'm getting used to it...
